Khan approves draft law to criminalize “enforced disappearance”

Prime minister Imran khan on monday approved a draft law to declare enforced disappearance as a crime.

During a meeting in Islamabad, regarding Generalized system of Preference (GSP plus) khan approved the draft law to declare enforced disappearance as a criminal offence.

The meeting was attended by:

  • State Minister for Interior Shehryar Afridi
  • Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari
  • Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and other high officials

Prime Minister Imran khan was informed that declaring enforced disappearance is very much necessary and amendment in the Pakistan Penal Code(PPC) are required to declare enforced disappearance as a criminal act. Prime Minister Imran Khan approved the draft bill.

Earlier, Khan has many times promised to the nation during the election campaigns that if he comes in power he will take steps to eradicate enforced disappearance. Declaring enforced disappearance as a criminal offence is the first step in eradicating enforced disappearance from the country.
